ReUse and UN Sustainable Development Goals
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global framework of 17 interconnected goals designed to address the world’s most pressing environmental, social, and economic challenges by 2030. They provide a shared roadmap for governments, industry, and research organisations to work together towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future. The SDGs are particularly important because they translate global sustainability ambitions into measurable actions, enabling progress tracking and increasing cooperation across sectors and borders.
The ReUse project is strongly aligned with several of these goals, demonstrating how European research and innovation in battery recycling can directly support global sustainability priorities. Through its work on advanced circular economy solutions for batteries, ReUse contributes to cleaner energy systems, reduced environmental impact, and strengthened international collaboration.
In particular, the project supports Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) by enabling more sustainable battery systems that are essential for storing renewable energy efficiently. By improving battery lifecycle management and recycling processes, ReUse helps accelerate the integration of renewable energy into the power system.
Under Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), ReUse contributes to the development of a resilient and innovative European battery recycling infrastructure, strengthening technological capabilities in materials recovery and circular processing.
The project also supports Goal 13 (Climate Action)by reducing greenhouse gas emissions through improved recycling strategies and life cycle assessments that minimise the environmental footprint of battery technologies.
In addition, ReUse contributes to Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)by reducing reliance on virgin raw materials and promoting the reuse of valuable battery components, supporting a more circular and resource-efficient economy.
Finally, through active participation in European research and innovation networks, ReUse strengthens Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)by promoting collaboration across countries, disciplines, and sectors. This is directly reflected in our involvement in Battery2030+ initiative, BEPA association and clustering with our sister projects.
Together, these contributions highlight how ReUse translates research into tangible impact aligned with global sustainability objectives.
